Phnom Penh, June 20, 2024 – The 13th edition of the Cambodia International Film Festival (CIFF) is set to captivate audiences with a diverse lineup of 153 films from 41 countries, including a robust selection of 48 Cambodian films. The festival, which runs from June 25 to June 30, 2024, will feature free screenings at various esteemed venues across Phnom Penh, such as Legend Cinema Olympia and Exchange Square, Major Cineplex Aeon 1 and Mean Chey, the French Institute, Bophana Center, Rosewood Hotel Phnom Penh, and the newly inaugurated Fable Cinema.
The festival kicks off with a red carpet Opening Gala at Chaktomuk Theater on June 25th and concludes with a closing film at Legend Olympia on June 30th, both events are invite-only. This year’s festival is brought to life with the support of the Royal Government of Cambodia, particularly the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, which continues to foster a safe and thriving space for the arts.
CIFF is honored to announce Lok Chumteav Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, as the "Honorary Patron" of the festival. Dr. Chea Serey's support reflects her commitment to promoting the cultural sector and creative industries in Cambodia, recognizing their role in the country’s economic development.
This year’s special programs include "Lifelong Learning" and "Road to Olympia," which aim to inspire the youth to pursue their dreams and careers. The "Lifelong Learning" program, in partnership with the Australian Embassy in Cambodia, celebrates the transformative power of education with films that cover a range of inspiring careers and vocational aspirations.
The "Road to Olympia" program will feature films related to sports achievements, aligning with the Olympic Games year. Highlights include the Australian film "Freeman" and the American film "Featherweight," both of which will be presented in discussions with their directors.
The festival also pays special tribute to Biv Chhay Leang, a notable figure from the “Golden Age” of Khmer cinema, showcasing some of his surviving works.
Additionally, CIFF will highlight Cambodian cinema with the "Cambodian Fiction" and "Stories in Cambodia" segments, which include both premieres and classic films that capture the essence of Cambodian culture and history.
Internationally, CIFF’s "Stories of the World" and "Colorful Worlds" programs will showcase a variety of films acclaimed for their unique storytelling and cinematic achievements. This includes works that explore complex themes such as migration, environmental challenges, and the human condition.
The festival is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Bophana Center, the Cambodia Film Commission, and the Department of Cinema, and partners with several major cinemas and cultural institutions in Phnom Penh.
